Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

What is PTSD?
According to Doctor Michael Dadson (Mike Dadson),

"PTSD is considered to be one of the mood/anxiety disorders that arise when the survival instincts are activated due to a sense of terror, powerlessness, helplessness or horror are experienced. This psychological experience is so difficult for a person, they need to avoid entering into it."

Dr. Michael Dadson discusses trauma in this counselling video.

 “
Symptoms of trauma usually start within three months of a traumatic incident. It has been reported, in rare cases, that symptoms of PTSD may only occur after a number of years. It is not uncommon for symptoms to be present for a short period, then disappear, only to return again” states Dr. Michael Dadson (Mike Dadson).

"Symptoms of PTSD may increase if new stressors arise in a person's life and serve as a mental reminder of an incident that was traumatic", explains Dr Dadson.

As the former Executive Director for the Veteran’s Transition Network, Doctor Mike Dadson was instrumental in conducting PTSD, trauma and Dissociation research and the subsequent publication of research findings.
