Outdoors, a Place to Manage Stress and Anxiety - Michael Dadson

Outdoors, a Place to Manage Stress and Anxiety - Michael Dadson

According to Dr Michael (Mike Dadson), "an outdoor environment with fresh air, be it in cultivated gardens, or a more natural setting, can help bring calm to both our bodies and minds, and is especially great when we suffer from stress, anxiety, and depression. Walking, or finding a quiet place to sit and breath naturally, allows nature to reach out to us with calming benefits. This is also true when we are around water sources."

Dr. Dadson on Counselling and the Impact of Sexual Abuse

Clinical Counselling for Depression, Substance Abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Sexual Abuse Can Result in a Lifetime of Compromised Mental Health, Especially When Left Unaddressed, According to Langley, BC Clinical Counsellor, Dr. Michael Dadson

Instances of sexual abuse are becoming more transparent in the media. There is the horrify story of USA gymnastics and their disgraced physician who abused hundreds of victims before he was caught.

Recently, The New York Times featured an article about a physician  who "addicted vulnerable women to pain medications and assaulted them, according to a new lawsuit".

The impacts of sexual abuse can be profound, traumatic and life long (anxiety and depression are common), if not addressed.  Not only are there mental health affects, but your physical health can be at risk as well. Dr Dadson notes research indicates eating disorders are also linked to abuse.

Counselling and other interventions are important to address the long term mental and .physical effects.

Influence of Fathers' Involvement on Sons' Health

Dr Michael Dadson wrote this paper some time ago, This is a post of a paper I wrote some time ago, and remains highly relevant today.

Psychologists have known for some time that fathers have a significant influence on their sons’ psychosocial and emotional development (Lisak, 1994; Richards & Duchkett, 1996). Recently, researchers have been discovering more about the link between healthy fatherhood and men’s psychological health (Ball, Moselle, & Pedersen, 2007). The characteristics of the father, the amount of time he spends with his children, and the closeness of the father/child relationship have all consistently predicted male adjustment outcomes in clinical and non-clinical populations (for reviews, see Amato & Gilbreth, 1999; Rohner & Veneziano, 2001).
