Help for Mothers facing Sleep Deprivation

There is help for parental sleep problems.

New York Times, Parenting, author  article to help you get the sleep you need.

Every night the same thing happens in my household. My husband falls asleep effortlessly, sometimes while we’re watching TV in bed and usually while he is still wearing his glasses. Meanwhile, I need an elaborate winding-down ritual that involves rereading beloved, calming books and cranking up the white noise. And even after that, it can take me hours to drop off.

A recent study published in JAMA Pediatrics, significant benefits were shown with a teaching program for parental engagement with babies identified as high risk for autism spectrum disorder. (ASD).

Studies have shown intervention at 2 years of life, can improve outcomes for children.

The study states in a "clinical trial of 103 infants showing early behavioral signs of ASD, preemptive intervention led to a statistically significant reduction in the severity of ASD behaviors across early childhood. Infants who received the preemptive intervention had lower odds of meeting diagnostic criteria for ASD (7%) than those who received usual care (21%) at age 3 years."

If you are dealing with challenges around a child affected by ASD and are looking for coping skills and support contact Dr. Mike Dadson here.

What is Trauma Focused Therapy

Photo: Susan Wilkinson

Trauma focused therapy in Langley allows individuals who have experienced
trauma to overcome their anxiety by safely exposing themselves to perceived
fears.

Trauma focused approach emerged in response to research
demonstrating that trauma is common and that it is highly
correlated with mental health.

Dr. Michael Dadson identifies:

Research has shown that there’s three primary phases, not stages,

but three primary phases or treatment. All three phases all always active

in therapy but, one phase will be accented or forefront at different times

in treatment. Usually at the beginning of therapy Phase one is more actively

present and towards the end phase three is more present. Dr. Dadson outlines

the 3 phases on his trauma therapy clinic webiste here.

Photo: Dan Meyers

Parents, teachers, and caregivers can use these tools to spot the warning signs, start important conversations, and learn when to seek help.

What are the warning signs?

Making suicidal statements
is a warning sign.

It is important to take suicidal statements seriously.

There are statements such as, “I could just die!” which are meaningless,

then there are calm statements made about ending one’s life that should always be

taken seriously.

Counselling is an important preventative intervention. When Teens are feeling depressed, have withdrawn from their social life, or have no desire for fulfilment in their life, counselling can help. What Preparations Do We Make for Post Covid19

What are your thoughts on the needs as we move into the next phase of Covid19 fallout.

COVID-19 is a pandemic of disproportionate magnitude. Its devastating effect seems to have a more significant impact on the emerging economies like India and the rest of SE Asia, which also has regions harbouring some of the world's highest population density living under poor socio-economic condition.
